Mindset Is Everything

Mindset Is Everything - Online Business Dude

Get this right, and everything else will fall into place: Mindset Is Everything.

Success in almost any chosen field comes down to these two things

  1. Acquiring knowledge about the very basics of XYZ
  2. Consistently applying these basics

The end.

Really? Can it be so simple?

Let's take a look at a few, totally different areas of expertise...

Professional Traders / Investment Fund Managers

If you're relatively new and making your first steps within the world of financial markets, everything looks super complicated.

On the technical side, you might learn about different price charts, support and resistence levels, trend definitions like trend lines or the definition of the dow theory, all kinds of "lagging" or "leading" indicators, chart patterns, oscillators, fibonacci retracements, extensions, levels, fibonacci fans, pitchforks, gann levels, special candles, candle formations, the same information is true for bar charts, time frames, how these work together, a combination of all above, ...

And that was "just" a small excerpt from the technical side of trading.

You could also learn everything about the "fundamental" side as well, looking at and learning from all kinds of macro economical reports and figures, interest rate decisions, following the release of every report, constantly following the news, CNBC, Bloomberg, experts, opinions, expectations, market forces, you could study all boom and bust cycles of the past, all depressions and stock market crashes, the reasons behind all booms and market exaggerations driven by greedy market participants, the tulip mania, ...

And honestly, this is only an excerpt of all the things you could study.

However, if you're following and listening to seasoned professionals in this field, they purposefully decided to reduce all this clutter to the very basics.

For technical traders this means having certain (often trend following) criteria in place, waiting for a pre-defined set of markets to meet those criteria, and then taking small, calculated bets.

They removed all the distractions and focus only on what matters the most:

Consistently applying their plan of taking pre-defined risks.

All these professional traders do this: After they specified the basics (their chosen trade criteria) - they completly focus on consistently applying their plans in the markets.

Often this means a rather limited set of variables that they watch and consider before making trading decisions.

These experts know that it's useless even trying to consider everything, because it can't be done.

You can't calculate or predict certain outcomes in the financial markets.

But you can consistently apply the basics. Here it means constently betting on market situations that are considered in favour of the trader.

Again, the outcome is up to the market. That's why the professionals all incorporate stop-loss techniques to limit their risk.

But I digress.

Losing weight / weight loss

What are the basics?

Consume less calories than you burn.

The end.

You could go "into more detail" and look into healthy eating to have more energy, or you could suggest to exercise during the day, so you burn more calories, but the basics won't change:

Eat less, move more. This leads to a bigger calorie deficit.

So the basics of weight loss not too complicated, right?

The rest is "just" applying these basics - every day.

And that's the tough part.

A friend of mine always says "you don't become fat during Christmas and New Year's Eve, but between New Year's Eve and Christmas".

How true.

Professional Sports Athletes

Learn the basics of the game.

Then train consistently - every day.

The end.

Professional Poker Players

Learn the basics of the game:

  • "reading" your opponents
  • betting strategy (including position at the table, when to bet / raise / call / fold, ...)

Then, don't deviate from your plan but stay consistent - play every hand, every table, even after hours and hours of sitting at a table, according to your plan.

Consistently apply the basics.

Content Marketing

Learn how to create quality content.

Don't freak out, you get better with time.

Then: Publish consistently.

Again: The end.

But - as Jim Rohn so eloquently put it:

“What is easy to do, is also easy not to do.”

Jim Rohn

But this website is about starting and growing online businesses, right?

Yes and no.

From above examples we can see, it's clearly not about some super sophisticated knowledge or "secrets".

It's all about consistenty applying the basics.

And the truth is:

This is NOT easy.

This takes work.

This takes focus.

Every. Single. Day.

And that's exactly why it helps if you join a group of people with similar aspirations and goals in a specific area of expertise. (in this case: Starting and growing an online business.)

These poeple will remind you of what is important and what is not.

It's so easy to get lost in the details.

It's easy to fall into the consumption trap.

It's easy to think "I need to know more about XYZ" instead of getting into the execution loop.

Don't make the same mistake as I did for years. Don't wait too long. Don't try to understand it all before you get started.

Instead: Take action.

The knowledge (aka "basics") is the easy part

The easy part is learning all about SEO.

The easy part is learning about value first marketing & sales.

The easy part is learning about income producing activities.

The easy part is learning about the success mindset.

But applying what you know, day in and day out, no matter if you feel like it or not - that's the tough part.

And that's the reason why so many people fail at [INSERT ANY DISCIPLINE HERE].

But we don't want to swallow the truth.

We don't want to hear that it's hard at times, that it takes work, effort, and some time before we see results.

We want the instant quick fix.

That's why the weight loss industry was able to develop into a multi billion dollar industry.

All around the principle of calorie deficit.

Wow. This is crazy.

Yes, this is a website about online business!

But I'm also writing these lines because I truly want to help you succeed at this.

And in a world full of "easy and quick fix" marketing, it needs to be said:

There is no quick fix to most (worthwhile) problems.

Don't fall for "easy and instant solution" promises made by snake oil salesmen.

The push botton riches don't exist.

There is no holy grail.

But here's the good news:

The sooner you realize the truth that it takes work over some time to see results, the sooner you can get to work.

Because you stopped looking for the holy grail, for the quick fix, for the "easier" solution, for the "push button results", the "simple money machine" - you can get to work.

You continue to do the work every day, because you realized the truth: Mindset Is Everything.

In the end, you will be able to enjoy the results so much more.

You will reap the benefits of your work and truly enjoy them.

So go out and make the sweat investment today: Do the work.

It will totally be worth it.

Stay awesome,
