Why are some people more successful than others? (while having the same 24 hours a day, and having the same access to knowledge, tools, and resources)
Brian Tracy answers this exact question in this video on success.
I suggest you listen to the audio while reading my notes.
Let's dive in.
Key Concepts & Ideas
Brian starts out by presenting his "from rags to riches/success" story.
He saw people who were more successful than him (while not appearing smarter or more talented) and asked himself the question:
Why is it that some people are more successful than others?
It's not about information.
Otherwise, all librarians would be rich.
(remark: It's even more apparent in today's highly-connected world that "intelligence" clearly is not the distinguishing factor, and all kinds of information being readily available at our fingertips)
Brian Tracy came across Aristotle's principle of causality.
The Law Of Cause And Effect
It's the law of the universe - the iron law - that determines and predicts everything.
If you are clear about the goal - any effect that you want, be it financial success, health, happy relationships, a great life, a beautiful home, a new car, a successful (online) business, really anything - than you can trace it back to the causes.
Find someone, who has achieved and done what you want and model the behaviors of that person.
Model their success.
If you do the same things - over and over again - you soon get the same results.
Nature is neutral.
Nature doesn't care.
If you do what other successful people do, you will get the same results.
This insight changed Brian's life.
Important Skills That Brian Tracy Learned And Practiced
Study and learn what you have to do in a specific field you choose to thrive in.
Today - in the information age - it's all about learn and do.
Learn what you need to learn and do what you need to do.
Key Qualities Of Character And Personality
Self-discipline is the master skill that makes everything else possible in life.
“Self-discipline is the ability to make yourself do, what you know you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.”
This is the key difference between success and failure.
You do the things that most people don't like to do and as a result, you not only become more successful, also your self-discipline gets stronger.
You 'just' have to have the discipline to do it.
Self-discipline is a quality that is learned through practice.
You can learn how to become a clear, focused, disciplined man or woman who can then accomplish anything that you want to do in life.
I spare you Brain Tracy's pitch of his program "The Miracle Of Self-Discipline" at the end of the video... 😉
But by stating earlier that "you already know most of what you need to know to be successful" Brian clearly indicated that it's - very likely - not another book or course that you need.
Instead, you need to get to work.
I hope you enjoyed the notes.
